Salted Caramel Apple Donuts made with TWIX® Cookie Bars
Makes: 12 donuts
Direction
To make Salted Caramel Sauce:
In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, combine water, sugar and salt.
Stir until mixture starts to boil. Lower to a simmer, slowly stirring. When syrup becomes medium-brown, add heavy cream; immediately reduce heat to low.
Continue stirring until caramel reaches a smooth texture. Cool and reserve.
To make Apple Donuts:
Preheat an oven to 375ºF and lightly coat a large donut pan with nonstick spray.
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.
In a separate bowl, combine butter, eggs, remaining sugar, buttermilk and applesauce. Fold in freshly grated apple.
Add the flour mixture to the bowl and fold until evenly combined.
Transfer the donut mixture to a piping bag and fill each cavity of the prepared donut pan ¾ of the way full. Evenly distribute.
Bake in preheated oven for about 14 to 16 minutes, or until tops a light brown; remove from oven and cool.
Dip the top of each donut into cooled salted caramel sauce, and top each with about 1 tablespoon of chopped TWIX® Cookie Bars.
